Places In Florida To Wander To
If you are Wandering Florida...
Then here are some places you might find interesting. I've not been to all of them so I can't vouch for all of them being a great time, but as I get to them I'll include reviews that might help your decision. Click on the headings or pictures to visit their websites.
If you like camping, this is the park for you! The Spirit of the Suwannee campground in Live Oak Florida is a sprawling facility, with over 600 improved campsites and 800 acres of primitive camping among oak and cypress hammocks along the banks of the historic Suwannee River. Music and arts events are held several times a year that cater to a variety of musical tastes. The campground is a vibrant exciting place yet peaceful when it needs to be - a campers dream!
The settlement is known as an Historical Village Museum, though it began as the Central School of Barberville (c. 1919). In 2001, the Volusia County School Board bestowed ownership of the property to the Board of Directors of a non-profit group known as the Pioneer Settlement for the Creative Arts, now known simply as the Pioneer Settlement. Well known among locals and a weekend favorite, the Settlement routinely holds special events such as craft fairs, music festivals and so on in addition to being a daily living snapshot of the pioneer period of our history. The settlement is a living museum, and is a great experience for all who appreciate early times in American history.
To locals, this race track is known simply as "Barberville", since it is located just East of that West Volusia County town in Deleon Springs. Fl. To everyone else, it is known as the Worlds Fastest Half Mile Dirt Track. I grew up going to this track on Saturday nights with my Dad, and it will put Dirt track Racing into your soul! This is a great facility, where the racing is fast, furious, wild and exciting. And if something a little smaller is more to your liking, there is a fantastic pro go-kart track on the same premises that is home to Volusia Karting. This is go-kart racing at it's finest, and makes for a great evening of fun!
Princess Place Preserve is a sprawling park located just south of Palm Coast, Florida off US-1. This is an absolutely beautiful park that is home to many cultural and arts and crafts events throughout the year. It also serves as an equestrian campground, where you can bring your horses, camp and ride the many trails throughout the park. It has a very interesting history and is historically significant to Flagler County as being home to Flagler's oldest intact structure and Florida's first in-ground swimming pool, as well as its lineage of being once owned by Boris Scherbatoff,an exiled Russian prince. This is not a place to go if you are looking for excitement and activity, but if a day picnic among the most gorgeous Florida scenery you've ever seen sounds appealing, then I highly recommend this park. Bring a blanket, some comfort food, and a good book, and lie beneath the sprawling oak hammock on soft grass and enjoy a touch of serenity.
